According to police, 31-year-old Markevius Xzavier Jackson was at the Burger King when he allegedly struck a 7-year-old boy, causing a cut to the child’s upper lip.

Jackson then fled the scene, police said, while witnesses followed and alerted officers to his location.

Witnesses told police that Jackson had walked over to the victim unprovoked and elbowed the child in the face, causing the boy to fall to the ground.

Both witnesses and surveillance video helped officers positively identify the suspect, according to Jackson’s arrest report.

The victim was treated by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel, who told police that the boy did not require any stitches for the cut to his lip.

Jackson is facing a felony charge for aggravated child abuse. He was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade without incident, police said.
