Large crowds flock to malls across South Florida after busy Christmas holiday

AVENTURA, Fla. – Hundreds of thousands of shoppers continue to flock to malls all across South Florida just one day after a busy Christmas holiday.

Local 10 News spoke with Crystal Rouhani, vice president of marketing at Aventura Mall, which is the fourth largest shopping center in the US.

“Today is a huge day at Aventura Mall and very indicative of what you see on Black Friday or Super Saturday with tons of people coming into the center but this time with a little bit more time on their hands,” said Rouhani.

Sky 10 flew over Sawgrass Mills this morning as the shoppers started flowing in to either make new purchases or return the gifts they may not love.

The National Retail Federation forecast that holiday spending is expected to reach record levels this season and will grow between 3% and 4% over 2022 to between $957 billion and $966.6 billion.

Local 10 News spoke with many shoppers who weren’t from South Florida but were visiting just to take advantage of all the holiday sales.

“It’s been really good,” said one shopper. It’s quite busy.”

Aventura Mall is open until 10 p.m. all week.
