King Mango Strut parade returns to Coconut Grove for 40th year

COCONUT GROVE, Fla. – Fun costumes and good times took over Coconut Grove on Sunday afternoon.

It was all part of the annual King Mango Strut parade.

While the street floats may have had local flair, it was the people in the parade that gave the event its unique vibe.

Now in its 40th year, the King Mango Strut parade delivered political satire and oddly humorous costumes.

“We are veterans, we brought a first timer with us,” said Kayla Cartwright Miranda.

The event drew hundreds, if not thousands, to downtown Coconut Grove following a several-year hiatus.

From dancing witches on the street to political shots against former President Donald Trump and his legal troubles -- even Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was represented in the form of a look-alike in a parade car, holding a boot and cash and being followed by a drag queen.

“A lot of double entendres, a lot of great quips and things very local,” said Ibis Valses. “That’s what I like the most about it.”

The parade, billed as one of the most unique in the country, is not for anyone without a sense of humor.

“The weirdness of the Grove came out and that’s what we love about it,” said Sarah Walls.
