Homeowner describes hearing plane crash along I-75

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – A South Florida homeowner described what he experienced when a small plane crashed behind his home.

Javid Kapadia said he was home Friday around 3 p.m. when he suddenly heard and explosion. He said ran outside to see clouds of black smoke and smelled a strong scent of jet fuel, then walking through the sound barrier to see the damage.

“At first I couldn’t even tell what it was, it was just a cloud of smoke,” Kapadia said. “And I just saw the landing gear. I couldn’t even really see the plane because it was just on fire and it was just so much smoke.”

Parts of the plane and some oxygen remain now scattered behind his home.

A portion of I-75 is still shut down as the investigation into the crash continues.
