Investigators look into the cause of boat crash injuring at least 13 near PortMiami

MIAMI – A boat crash that injured at least 13 people off Miami remained under investigation on Monday.

A Thriller sightseeing vessel operating out of Bayside Marketplace and a privately-owned boat collided on Sunday near PortMiami, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Fire rescue personnel took the 13 to Jackson Memorial Hospital after about 3:15 p.m., in the Fisherman’s Channel, according to MDFR Division Chief Horacio Rodriguez.

An MDFR helicopter airlifted a patient to the JMH Ryder Trauma Center.

There were nearly 30 people in the boats, so Miami Fire Rescue personnel, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission personnel, and the U.S. Coast Guard assisted MDFR.

“The patients that had no complaints were taken back to Bayside,” Rodriguez said during a news conference.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation on Monday morning.
