Mother wants hit-and-run driver who struck son after Miami-Dade public bus hit to surrender

Detectives search for driver of a blue Hyundai after hit-and-run crash in Opa-locka

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — Detectives were searching Saturday for the driver of the blue Hyundai who struck a boy after the driver of a public bus had run him over while he was riding his bicycle in Opa-locka.

His mother, Desiree Bozeman, said her 9-year-old son Everett Frazier was hit twice at about 8 p.m., on Friday at the intersection of Sesame Street and Northwest 27th Avenue.

“My baby is hurting,” the anguished mother said.

After the Miami-Dade transit bus struck Everett, the driver of a blue Hyundai sports utility vehicle also hit him and sped away southbound on 27 Avenue, according to the Opa-locka Police Department.

“I saw the moment when the car hit him ... I know the car when he tried to avoid the kid, hit the bus,” Felix Morejon said.

On Saturday, Bozeman said Everett was suffering from a broken arm and scratches on his face, but doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center expected him to make a full recovery.

Bozeman urged the hit-and-run driver to surrender to police. Detectives were asking anyone with information about the case to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
