MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – An inmate at the Dade Correctional Institution has racked up another charge after authorities say he set off the fire sprinkler in his cell and turned off the water to the fire detection and suppression system for a portion of the prison.

According to his arrest report, the incident occurred Monday morning at the prison, located at 19000 SW 377th St.

Florida Department of Corrections officials said the incident occurred after Jason Osborn, 44, of Miami, requested more toilet paper as an officer and nurse were making rounds.

According to the report, the officer told Osborn to wait, at which time Osborn “became abusive.”

Police said a short time later, the officer noticed dark water coming from underneath the door of the cell.

Osborn then told the officer that he “popped it” and to “take me to TGK,” the report stated.

According to the report, Osborn “became increasingly hostile and verbally abusive” until another officer arrived to remove him from the cell.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that the water to the fire detection and suppression system had been turned off for a portion of the prison.

Police said Osborn requested an attorney, although he spontaneously and repeatedly asked to be taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Officers acquiesced to his request and he was transported to the jail on a charge of preventing or obstructing the extinguishing of a fire.
