Parkland home destroyed after fire erupts inside

PARKLAND, Fla. – A fire erupted Friday morning inside a home in Parkland, destroying the house.

The fire was reported in the 5400 block of Godfrey Road.

Sky 10 was above the scene around 6:10 a.m. as heavy smoke was coming from the home.

The fire appeared to be mostly out by 6:45 a.m., but a view from Sky 10 showed that it was completely charred and gutted.

According to officials with the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department, the home was under renovation so no one was inside when the fire broke out.

Officials said firefighters responded to the home within five minutes and extinguished the blaze, however, the home was deemed to be a total loss.

Only a few walls are still standing, along with the chimney.

“I’m just glad everybody is OK, and I would like to know what caused it just to make sure it doesn’t happen to any of our houses,” one neighbor told Local 10 News.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
