Teens charged with breaking into Miami middle school, causing extensive damage

MIAMI – An 18-year-old has been arrested, accused of breaking into a South Florida middle school and leaving a mess of destruction in his path.

Bryant Mayorga appeared in court Monday and is facing a series of charges all tied to damage discovered inside Shenandoah Middle School over the weekend.

Police say Mayorga and four other kids forced their way inside the school just after midnight Saturday to carry out the crime.

Inside one of the classrooms, a number of computers, printers and a promethean board, which is an interactive learning smartboard, were all damaged beyond repair.

On the night of the incident, police said they caught the group in the act. Desks were tossed and flipped upside down and a fire extinguisher had been discharged all over a classroom.

The teens tried to run, but officers said they caught Mayorga and two minors who are all now getting a tough lesson about the law.

Mayorga is now facing charges of criminal mischief over $1,000, unoccupied burglary, possession of cannabis, luring or enticing a child and obstructing a fire prevention device.

When asked why they destroyed the property, one of the defendants told a responding officer that they were, “doing their homework.”
