Man accused of DUI crash injuring his son faces 6 charges in Broward

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – After his 36th birthday celebration, a father was accused of driving drunk with his son as a passenger and crashing into a tree in Broward County. Both father and son were injured and survived.

Michael Jerome Perez was facing six criminal charges. Records released on Wednesday show Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies booked him on Tuesday at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale.

“The vehicle was traveling at approximately 114 miles per hour and climbing,” Officer Karim Jaafar wrote in the report adding that aside from alcohol Perez had also consumed benzos and marijuana.

Perez crashed a white 2017 Honda Accord into a tree at about 2:30 a.m., on Nov. 22, in the area of North 40 Avenue and Taft Street, according to Jaafar’s arrest report.

Hollywood Fire Rescue personnel took Perez and his son to Memorial Regional Hospital, according to the police arrest report. Records show Perez was facing a charge of neglecting a child with great bodily harm, a second-degree felony.

Perez was also facing two counts of DUI and serious bodily injury to another, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, DUI with property damage, and reckless driving.
