MIAMI — The Florida Department of Transportation announced that the flyover bridge’s two ramps in Miami near the Rickenbacker Causeway were open Tuesday morning.
This improved the traffic flow for drivers traveling from Key Biscayne, Virginia Key, and Hobie Island to the Miami mainland after Sunday’s traffic nightmare.
The ramps had closed on Sunday. The first ramp to reopen on Monday connects the causeway’s westbound lanes to the northbound lanes of Interstate 95.
Tish Burgher, a spokeswoman for the FDOT District 6, released a statement saying FDOT contractors reopened the southbound ramp. It connects drivers to U.S. 1.
The ramp reopened earlier than anticipated. Burgher had released an FDOT statement on Monday announcing it would reopen Wednesday. The new plan for the rehabilitation project remains unclear.
