Pinecrest attempted murder suspect transferred to Miami-Dade jail

PINECREST, Fla. – An attempted murder suspect was transferred to Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center Tuesday after authorities say he opened fire on another man in a quiet Pinecrest neighborhood last month.

Authorities said Jeffrey Manuel Chamorro, 31, was apprehended by members of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force near the 800 block of Himmarshee Street in Fort Lauderdale last Tuesday.

The initial incident occurred around 3 p.m. April 17, when police said Chamorro lured the victim to a residential area in the 8200 block of Southwest 128th Street and fired at him in an “attempt to take his life.”

After being angered by the victim’s interactions with his girlfriend, police said Chamorro set up a meeting at a nearby Home Depot but then changed the location.

Upon the victim’s arrival, authorities said Chamorro fired shots at his vehicle and subsequently crashed into it while attempting to flee.

An arrest warrant states Chamorro sold his damaged vehicle to a tow truck owner, replacing it with a grey Cadillac SUV.

The tow truck owner, during an interview with detectives, provided video evidence linking Chamorro to the crime, according to investigators.

Police said Chamorro’s girlfriend revealed his jealousy along with “violent tendencies” and confessed to arguing with him on the day she received text messages from the victim.

She also disclosed that Chamorro had written a letter confessing to the shooting, detectives said

Chamorro’s gunshots left multiple bullet holes in the victim’s car, but none of them hit the man he targeted, according to police.

Jail records show Chamorro is being held without bond as of Wednesday afternoon.
