Video shows Amazon driver hitting woman pushing baby in stroller before leaving scene, cops say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Newly-obtained home surveillance footage shows a crash police described as a hit-and-run at the hands of an Amazon delivery driver in northeast Miami-Dade on Thursday morning.

Police said Sarahy Parra-Ovalles, 45, of northwest Miami-Dade, hit a woman pushing her baby in a stroller in the Aventura Isles subdivision in the unincorporated Ives Estates area.

Both the mother and child were hurt.

After the crash at Northeast Seventh Avenue and 191st Street, Miami-Dade police said Parra-Ovalles got out of her SUV, set the stroller upright, picked up the baby and put the 4-month-old back in the stroller before driving away.

Police said the woman suffered a skull fracture, bruising and a brain bleed while the infant suffered a laceration to his forehead. Both were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment, police said.

Authorities arrested Parra-Ovalles Friday on charges of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash without serious bodily injury.

Amazon later responded in a statement, saying that Parra-Ovalles “is no longer delivering on behalf of Amazon.”

“This is a terrible incident and our thoughts are with this family. We’re looking into the matter and will support law enforcement as they investigate,” the spokesperson said.

Court records showed that Parra-Ovalles, a Venezuelan national, was later released on bond.
