Police: Boy recovering after nearly drowning in Wilton Manors house pool

WILTON MANORS, Fla. — A young boy is recovering after being found unconscious in a swimming pool in Wilton Manors on Friday evening.

Wilton Manors police and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to a home on the 2300 block of Northeast 4th Avenue just before 5 p.m.

Authorities said the boy, believed to be 4 or 5 years old, was found unresponsive in the water.

“It’s scary. It must be just like the worst thing you can think of as a parent,” a neighbor said.

Neighbors told Local 10 News the home operates as an Airbnb. First responders performed CPR before rushing the boy to the Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.

“I’m a grandmother, and I tried to teach my kids and grandkids to swim pretty young,” the neighbor added. “It’s just such a tragedy. You know, when there’s kids around, watch your kids, put a monitor person by the pool.”

Authorities say the boy is now responsive thanks to their quick action.

Officials have not yet released an update on his condition.
