MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities are still working to confirm key details about the man who they said opened fire at a used car dealership in Miami-Dade County on Thursday afternoon.
The gunfire broke out around 1 p.m. at Priced Right Motors, Inc., a used car lot located at 7321 SW 45th St. in the Glenvar Heights neighborhood, just east of the Palmetto Expressway and south of Bird Road.
6 p.m. report:
Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said three people were shot during the incident, which she said was domestic, including the suspected shooter who has not been identified by police as of Thursday evening.
One of the two victims has since been pronounced dead, Cordero-Stutz said.
Family members of Eduardo Rivero Jr., told Local 10 News that he was killed in the shooting.
His brother told Local 10 News that Rivero, who was the owner of Price Right Motors, was among at least three people rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital’s trauma center following the shooting before he was pronounced dead.
“He killed my little brother,” the man said. “He better hope they put him in prison.”
According to a source, the shooter was identified as Roberto Leyva.
Cordero-Stutz confirmed the victim was the half-brother of the shooter.
The hospital’s emergency room remained on lockdown Thursday night due to the sensitive nature of the case — both the injured victim and the suspected shooter are believed to be receiving treatment at the same facility.
“This is still active and if you could stay out of this area we would really appreciate it,” Cordero-Stutz said just after 3 p.m. at a news conference.
Deputies temporarily closed a neighboring area of Bird Road and Miller Drive near the Palmetto Expressway. There were K-9 units on standby.
MDFR active call records show fire rescue dispatched 29 units, including a helicopter that landed at a nearby football field in Tropical Park.
Outside the Kendall hospital, deputies stood guard as emotional family members waited for word on their loved ones.
The shooting frightened parents with their children at nearby businesses during Take Your Child to Work Day.
