MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 59-year-old man appeared in court on Tuesday facing charges after a recent arson at his daughter’s home in Miami-Dade County.
Court records show prosecutors filed two felony cases against Martin Perez on Monday and a judge granted a motion for pre-trial detention.
One of the cases was for aggravated battery of a pregnant woman and criminal mischief of over $1,000. The other was for first-degree arson.
Inmate records show correctional deputies had booked Perez shortly after 6:10 a.m., on Sunday, at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
The fire was at about 2 a.m., on Sunday, at a two-story home in Homestead. A dog named “Loki” died in the fire of the home of a single mother and her 9-year-old son, according to the victim.
