Tamarra Primeau, 41, was arrested following a near-drowning incident that occurred on Wednesday, according to her arrest report.
Officers with the Homestead Police Department said they were dispatched just before 7:30 p.m. to a home near the 2600 block of Northeast 12th Road in emergency mode in response to a reported drowning.
The report stated that a witness told investigators he saw two children struggling in the water and another standing on the shore. He then rushed into the lake and pulled both children to safety.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and treated them at the scene. Authorities confirmed that no serious injuries were reported.
During interviews with police, one of the victims said they entered the lake first and began drowning, prompting one of his siblings to jump in the water and try to help.
He said their mother had left them home alone while she went to work and that their older brother, who was supposed to watch them, had left with friends, according to the report.
Detectives said that the children had gone to the lake to “play a tap game.”
Police said Primeau returned to the scene and was read her Miranda rights, which she acknowledged and signed.
Investigators said she admitted to failing to provide proper care and supervision for the children.
They said she was taken into custody and then processed at Homestead Police Department. Authorities said the children were released to a family member at Primeau’s request.
As of Thursday, she is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where her bond is listed as “to be set.”
