Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the alleged child abuse on Saturday at a homeless shelter at 28205 SW 124 Court.

Records show M-DCSO correctional deputies booked Garcia shortly after midnight on Sunday, and she appeared in court about two hours later.

“She does have a 6-month-old [baby] that she wants to go home to,” a public defender told Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Charlie Johnson in court on Sunday.

County records show M-DCSO deputies arrested Josephine Garcia for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Feb. 2.

Miami police officers had also arrested Garcia for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in 2018. Prosecutors dropped the case within about a month.

Circuit Judge Cristina Miranda was presiding over this year’s pending cases, which both included orders for Garcia to stay away from the alleged victims.

On Sunday, Johnson set her bond for the child abuse case to $3,000 and she remained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Monday afternoon.
