MIAMI – Rapper YNW Melly appeared in court Tuesday as his lawyers tried to convince the judge to release him on bond.
The rapper, whose real name is Jamell Demons, is accused of shooting and killing Christopher Thomas Jr. and Anthony Williams nearly seven years ago.
Both were members of the YNW Collective alongside Demons.
His first trial ended in a mistrial in 2023 and he has since filed a motion for pretrial release.
The judge is expected to rule on this request for bond in the coming days.
Demons’ murder retrial is scheduled to begin in September and if convicted, he could face the death penalty.
