New York murder suspects taken into custody after SWAT standoff in Miami

MIAMI — A homicide trail that began in New York led detectives to a standoff at a Miami apartment building.

SWAT officers from the Miami Police Department were called out to the seventh floor of an apartment building located near Northwest 27th Avenue and 16th Street.

According to police, a man and a woman barricaded themselves in a room inside an apartment.

Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department were trying to carry out a search warrant for items tied to a crime in their jurisdiction when they encountered the duo, who are being labeled suspects in the homicide.

The surrounding street was closed for hours, leaving residents unable to get into their homes.

Eventually, police said the couple surrendered peacefully.

They were taken to the Miami police station to be interviewed about their possible involvement in that New York crime.
