HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A fiery crash caught on camera in Hollywood over the weekend left one person dead and others hospitalized, police confirmed.
The crash happened Sunday along 40th Avenue, where a car burst into flames following a collision.
6 p.m. report:
Cellphone video from witness shows bystanders running toward the burning vehicle in a desperate attempt to help those inside.
“I heard the fire start. I was like, ‘Oh, another crash,’ and then I saw a huge fire,” said Lily Pishik, who lives nearby and called 911 after hearing the impact.
Hollywood police shut down part of the intersection after the crash knocked out power to a traffic signal.
“There was a tree there,“ Pishik said. ”The tree fell down after the fire stopped.“
Authorities confirmed that multiple people were taken to the hospital, though the extent of their injuries was not immediately released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
