DAVIE, Fla. – A vicious attack on a Broward County school bus was captured on camera last week.
A student is seen in the video being pummeled by two other teenagers last Thursday as fellow students from Driftwood Middle School in Hollywood filmed the attack.
The video shows one student delivering an open-handed sucker slap to the victim before another teen moves in, delivering blow after blow.
A school bus full of students watched and recorded the attack. The video clearly shows that the 15-year-old victim doesn’t fight back and tries to find cover.
The boy’s mother, Deysi Gonzalez, told Local 10 News that she received a call after the bus driver pulled over and called Davie police for help.
“When I saw the video, I couldn’t believe it,” Gonzalez said in Spanish.
Gonzalez said her son just came to the U.S. and started at Driftwood Middle School at the beginning of the year.
She said she couldn’t understand what the students were yelling at him aboout in English.
“It hurts me because they beat him without mercy. They had absolutely no consideration,” Gonzalez said.
“No one got involved. No one said anything,” the family’s attorney, Maribel Piza, said.
Piza, who is helping the boy through his immigration proceedings, said Gonzalez went to her, shared the video of the attack and asked for help.
“To bring awareness to other parents, so they know it’s not only in the school where you need to be, you know, aware, but you also need to speak with your children about what’s going on,” Piza said.
Davie police said the teen was playing cards with another student when the attack abruptly happened.
The school district got involved, suspending the two attackers.
Gonzalez says she wants parents to be aware and to talk to their children about bullying.
She said she also still wants to understand why this happened to her son.
Fortunately, the teen didn’t suffer any fractures.
His mother confirmed that he went to school Monday as she says he needs to face this and continue to get an education.
A spokeswoman for Broward County Public Schools released the following statement to Local 10 News:
