MIAMI – Miami-Dade Transit is reducing hours on Miami’s automated Metromover system “until further notice,” officials announced Tuesday.
A county news release states MDT will now run the Metromover from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. beginning on June 1, ″in order to accommodate important technical improvements that are required as part of the necessary Metromover Upgrade Project, and to more closely mirror ridership demand and usage patterns."

The free system, which connects to the larger Metrorail rapid transit system, had been running from 5 a.m. to midnight.
“This two-and-a-half-hour adjustment will allow the contractor to expedite the ongoing work and upgrades to enhance safety and reliability,” the news release states. “New service hours may be extended to accommodate passenger demand for special events in the service area.”
The county is in the midst of upgrading the people mover system, which was opened in 1986. Major subsystems “have reached the end of their design and utility life spans,” officials said.
In December, Miami Today reported that the upgrade project, which was supposed to be completed this year, has fallen behind and is now projected to be done in 2026.
