VIDEO: ‘Dumb criminals’ take 200 pounds of mail, go on Dadeland shopping spree, police say

3 suspects arrested, cops looking for 1 more

DORAL, Fla. – Doral police say video shows a group of suspects stealing a motherlode of mail: about 200 pounds.

It’s part of an ongoing problem of mail thefts in South Florida. Postal inspectors recently offered a hefty reward for information on suspected mail thieves in Sunrise.

In Doral, police said the four suspects used a stolen key to steal the mail at an apartment complex in the city, which included residents’ credit cards and personal information.

They then used some of the stolen cards to go on a shopping spree at Dadeland Mall, getting “PlayStations, an iPad ― even charging a bottle of water,” Doral Police Department Chief Edwin Lopez said.

“Thank God we have amazing detectives and some dumb criminals,” he said. “We were able to coordinate all the information, review the camera footage, and were able to apprehend these individuals.”

Police said three of the four suspects are in custody: Ivey Marquis Allen, 34, of Opa-locka; Guston Malheur, 19, of northwest Miami-Dade; and Latron Steadman, 23, of Miami.

“I’ve never seen something of this magnitude,” Lopez said.

Lopez said a fourth suspect, Antwan Ronald McClain, 44, of Miami, was at large as of Wednesday.

“We’re not going to stop ‘til we bring him to justice,” Lopez said. “These are people’s livelihoods. These are people’s safety and these are individuals that are targeting these individuals, who are innocent victims ― we have a zero tolerance for any of these folks that are going to come to Doral and act this way."

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
