WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump secured over $243 billion in deals during a meeting Wednesday in Doha with Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Amir, the Emir of Qatar.
Boeing and Qatar Airways Group executives witnessed the signing of an order for 210 wideboy jets, including 130 787 Dreamliners and 30 7779s airplanes.
“It’s the largest order of jets in the history of Boeing so that’s pretty good,” Trump said during a news conference.
Qatar, home to the largest U.S. military base in the Middle East, has mediated the negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
Before the ceremony at a lavish palace, Trump faced ethical criticism in Washington over a Boeing 747-8 jetliner, a $400 million gift from Qatar, and a planned Trump International Golf Club & Villas outside Doha.
U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, who Trump endorsed for Florida governor, said there is a need for a new Air Force One, and getting the new one will take time.
“Secret Service is going to have to go through it and they have to put in all the necessary security features,” Donalds said.
