CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A masked MS-13 gang member armed with a gun and a knife attempted a carjacking on Friday at a street stop in Miami-Dade County, police said.
According to the Coral Gables Police Department, Wilson Verela approached the driver at the stop sign at Red Road and Southwest 25 Street.

“The victim got away and notified the Coral Gables Police who responded within minutes,” Sgt. Michelle Christensen, a CGPD spokeswoman, wrote.
Police officers responded and arrested Verela, 24, who was born in Honduras, in the Granada neighborhood area, near West Miami.
“Verela admitted to being a member of the MS-13 gang,” Christensen wrote.
According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Verela, who is also known as “El Low Key” and “Grifo,” walked out of prison on Feb. 10.
Records show arrested Verela on Oct. 22 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Miami-Dade County. He was convicted and sentenced to a year and 9 months in prison on Feb. 8, 2024.
Christensen reported Coral Gables detectives were working with Homeland Security Investigations and Customs and Border Protection.
