Police ID victim killed in double shooting outside Lauderhill church

Funeral held Monday for 41-year-old Erika Williams

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Police are investigating a fatal shooting that they say occurred outside of a church in Lauderhill over the weekend.

It happened at approximately 2:15 a.m. Sunday along the 1700 block of Northwest 38th Avenue.

According to Lauderhill police, officers responded to the scene and found two woman who had been shot.

10 a.m. report:

Police say 41-year-old Erika Williams died after gunfire erupted in the parking lot of a church along Northwest 38th Avenue. Another woman was also shot and taken to the hospital, where she was treated and later released.

Crime scene tape surrounded the lot on Monday morning as detectives collected evidence and tried to determine what led to the shooting.

Several bullet holes could still be seen in a nearby container hours after the shooting. Investigators say they are still working to identify a motive.

“It was complete rapid like just straight someone held their hand on the trigger and it just went,” said Bobby, a Lauderhill resident.

So far, police have not identified any suspects and have not said whether they believe more than one person was involved.

“It’s the taking of an innocent life that people ain’t got no type of remorse for people,” Bobby added.

Family members of Williams told Knese that a funeral will be held for her on Monday.

Authorities have not released any information regarding a motive or the circumstances that led up to the shooting.

Police said there are currently no known suspects.
