Jail records show Jaimaijai Mensie was arrested Saturday and is facing four counts of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count each of kidnapping with a firearm, false imprisonment with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded around 4:30 a.m. inside a laundry room on the third floor of an apartment complex in the 15000 block of Northwest Seventh Avenue.

The report stated that surveillance video reviewed by investigators showed Mensie following the victim into the laundry room, where the two appeared to argue.

Mensie then struck the victim several times with her hands before preventing her from leaving the room, investigators said.

Moments later, deputies said Mensie left and returned with a gun.

They said surveillance video showed her removing the magazine and manipulating the slide before using the gun to strike the victim multiple times in the head and face, knocking her unconscious.

Detectives said Mensie then concealed the weapon in a black cross-body bag and dragged the unconscious woman along a walkway and into the victim’s own apartment.

Deputies arrived soon after and found both women inside the apartment.

A witness told officers he woke up to what he thought were gunshots, according to the report.

Investigators said they later found a .380 caliber shell casing near the laundry room, along with blood traces in the hallway and laundry area.

Although no one was shot, deputies said the victim suffered a head injury and later told detectives she only remembered waking up with a headache and could not recall the attack.

Mensie declined to speak with investigators, the report stated.

A criminal records check revealed that she is a convicted felon and is barred from possessing guns. Deputies said she is also subject to five active domestic violence injunctions.

With the victim’s consent, deputies said they searched the apartment and discovered a black Nike cross-body bag hidden under a bed.

Inside, they found a loaded black semi-automatic firearm matching the one seen in the surveillance footage. Investigators said the magazine contained two rounds that matched the spent casing recovered at the scene.

Authorities impounded the evidence for forensic analysis.

Deputies have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between Mensie and the victim, and the motive for the alleged attack remains unclear at this time.

As of Monday, she was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where her bond was listed as “to be set.”
