An arrest report states that David Rafael Aleman, 39, of southwest Miami-Dade, tried to make a left turn onto Madruga Court and turned in front of a motorcyclist, identified as 22-year-old Anthony Emilio Arce.
Authorities said Aleman “approached the fallen motorcyclist” but then left Arce for dead as he fled in his Kia Sorento without rendering aid or calling for help.
Coral Gables Fire Department medics took Arce to Jackson South Medical Center and he was pronounced dead just before midnight.
Police said Wednesday that they identified Aleman as the suspect through red light camera images and social media tools. Coral Gables detectives, along with Miami-Dade deputies, went to his home in the 5300 block of Southwest 158th Avenue in the West Kendall area just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
They then took him to Coral Gables police headquarters for questioning. There, police said he made two admissions, which were redacted from the report.
They then arrested him on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
As of Wednesday, he was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $35,000 bond.
