According to BSO spokeswoman Miranda Grossman, ICAC received a tip in December about someone who was soliciting nude photos from the victim and extorting her through social media.
Grossman said the investigation led detectives to 20-year-old Ygremerley Junior Murat.
“Detectives obtained evidence that Murat began commenting on the victim’s posts and offering compliments. He eventually asked for nude photos,” Grossman said in a news release. “After sending the photos, the victim began receiving threatening direct messages from Murat demanding more sexually explicit photos. He threatened to post her photos on social media if she did not comply.”
Grossman said the victim stopped communicating with Murat and told her mother about the photos and threats.
A search warrant was executed at Murat’s home on Tuesday morning and detectives said they discovered several videos of underage girls engaging in sexual acts.
Authorities said Murat confessed to the crimes.
He was arrested on charges of extortion and solicitation of a child using a computer or device.
As of Wednesday morning, Murat was being held at the Broward County Main Jail without bond.
Grossman said the investigation remains ongoing and detectives believe there may be additional victims out there.
Anyone with information about Murat or believes they may know someone who is a victim should contact Detective Rolando Abreu at 954-595-0869 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
