Experts fear lax vaccination attitudes contributing to rise in severe flu cases

MARGATE, Fla. — We are currently in the summer cold season, but medical experts are categorizing 2025 as one of the most severe in flu cases since 2017.

This is on par with what doctors at HCA Florida Northwest Hospital in Margate are saying, as they too are seeing a substantial increase in flu cases.

Those doctors are seeing a lot of elderly people showing up to the emergency room, as they say the strains they are seeing are stronger than in recent years.

“People have fallen off in terms of their vaccination because at one point, you know, everybody was getting vaccinated, and now people are getting a little more lax about it and it’s giving a chance for strains to evolve,” said Dr. Baker-Golawala with HCA Florida Northwest.

The symptoms of the flu are coughing, fever and fatigue.

If this is you, and we all learned this in kindergarten, you should stay home until you are better, and if you must go out, wear a mask.

Regarding COVID, doctors there said they too are seeing some cases, but so far, there is nothing to be alarmed about.
