AVENTURA, Fla. – Cell phone video captured a large plume of smoke coming from a popular shopping venue in South Florida.
It happened at Aventura Mall just before 4 p.m. Thursday.
A witness who shared video with Local 10 News said one moment he was taking pictures with his family near the popular children’s slide at the mall and the next, he looked up and saw smoke.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, along with Aventura police, quickly responded and fortunately, crews were able to pinpoint the source of the fire at the Motek Mediterranean restaurant.
Firefighters said while the grease fire was ultimately extinguished, smoke traveled through the duct system and was seen outside.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said 15 of its units to responded to the fire.
That portion of the mall will remain shut down as crews work to find out how the fire started.
