MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A driver has died after crashing into the front of a townhouse in Miami Gardens early Friday morning after being shot, police confirmed to Local 10 News.
According to authorities, the crash was reported just before 12:45 a.m. in the 1400 block of Northwest 210th Street.
Miami Gardens police said the driver had been shot in the upper body before crashing into the security gate and then a townhome.
The driver, identified by family as Demonte Lumpkin, was then airlifted by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a nearby trauma center, where he died.
The 28-year-old’s mother, Shena Moorer, spoke to Local 10’s Annaliese Garcia at the scene.
“Why? Why would you want to hurt my son?” Shena Moorer said. “My son wasn’t out here killing people. He was not harming nobody. He was home by himself or he was around his family all the time.”
Police said a man in the passenger seat was also shot multiple times and, a short time later, was dropped off at a separate medical facility.
The passenger remains in critical condition, police confirmed.
No other details were immediately released.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Miami Gardens Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
