Police responded to the parking lot of 801 Lyons Road around 5:40 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2024, and found McFadden dead from gunshot wounds to the head just outside of his home.

In an update posted on CCPD’s Facebook account, investigators said McFadden had arranged to buy narcotics from John-Ronard Cedieu, of Fort Lauderdale, after connecting through social media.

But when Cedieu arrived, police say McFadden attempted to rob him using a stolen gun. Cedieu, who was also armed, shot McFadden during the attempted robbery.

Coconut Creek police submitted the case to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office Homicide Trial Unit, which reviewed the evidence and determined that Cedieu acted in lawful self-defense.

Authorities said that prosecutors declined to file charges.

The case had previously been reviewed for a possible felony murder charge, since the shooting occurred during the course of a drug transaction.
