Graphic video shows police car hitting suspect on the run in South Beach

SOUTH BEACH, Fla. – A 30-year-old man who is a suspect in a sexual battery threatened to hurt police, but it was he who was hurt on Friday in South Beach, police said.

Police officers responded to the Chesterfield Hotel, at 855 Collins Avenue, and found Jeremey Stafford outside drinking cognac, according to a police report.

Stafford threatened to hurt police officers and fled, so a police officer deployed a Taser, but that didn’t stop him, according to a police arrest report.

Mitch Novick had surveillance video showing Stafford walking into the street when a police officer in a marked vehicle struck him.

Stafford was at fault, according to the Miami Beach Police Department.

The video shows several police officers rushing to arrest him after the collision at about 6:55 a.m., at Ninth Street and Collins Avenue.

Miami Beach fire rescue personnel also responded.

Miami-Dade County inmate records show correctional deputies booked Stafford at 4:45 p.m., at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where he remained on Friday night.

Stafford faced charges of battery on a police officer, resisting arrest with violence, resisting arrest without violence, and prohibited curb drinking.
