A Broward County judge found probable cause for the charges against Gerson Alette Jr., of North Miami Beach, and set his total bond at $85,000.

Alette is also required to remain in Broward County during the case, surrender his passport, and be placed on Level 1 GPS electronic monitoring. He was ordered not to drive.

Jail records show Alette is facing six counts of reckless driving causing damage to person or property and one count of vehicular homicide.

A judge ruled that all of the charges include conditions of bond plus pretrial release with electronic monitoring.

Authorities said Alette was arrested Friday in connection with the May 11 crash at the intersection of Sheridan Street and North 40th Avenue.

According to Hollywood police spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi, Alette was behind the wheel of a white 2013 Chrysler 300 that collided with a gray 2022 BMW 8 Series just after 5:40 p.m.

Police say the impact ignited a fire that engulfed the BMW. Hollywood Fire Rescue crews extinguished the flames and discovered a man inside the BMW, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Alette was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

An arrest report stated that Alette admitted to being in a rush to get to work at LongHorn Steakhouse at Sheridan Plaza. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to police.

Along with the vehicular homicide and reckless driving charges, Alette also faces citations for disobeying a red light and two counts of unlawful speeding.

Jail records show Alette remains in custody at the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale as of Saturday afternoon.
