Police said the crash happened at around 7 p.m. Saturday along Northwest 41st Street, just west of 104th Avenue.

Doral police said Jonathan Valdes, 33, of Virginia Gardens, sideswiped another vehicle and kept driving. Medics took the other driver to the hospital “due to complaints of back pain,” an arrest report states.

Police said witnesses reported Valdes was speeding and “abruptly changing lanes” just before the crash.

The report states that witnesses followed Valdes’ white Honda as they called police.

Valdes “was ultimately unable to flee because his vehicle became disabled,” police said, and officers arrived to find Valdes and his two children inside.

The report states Valdes’ 8-year-old daughter “sustained a small laceration to her forehead due to hitting the windshield” during the crash.

Authorities said it’s believed she was sitting unbuckled in the front passenger seat at the time and hit the windshield on impact.

The report states Valdes “had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath” when officers spoke to him.

Police arrested Valdes on a charge of child abuse causing no great bodily harm and issued him a hit-and-run traffic citation.

As of Monday morning, he remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bond listed in online records as “to be set.”
