Authorities said the stabbing happened around 4:15 p.m. on June 6 at a bus stop near Juan Pablo Duarte Park, located at 1776 NW 28th St.
Responding officers with the Miami Police Department said they arrived to find the victim bleeding profusely from a six-inch laceration on the right side of his back.
As officers provided aid, bystanders pointed police toward the suspect, who they later identified as 66-year-old Humberto Gallo, according to his arrest report.
Witnesses said they saw Gallo walking near Northwest 17th Avenue and Northwest 29th Street and followed him to ensure he didn’t get away, the report stated.
Authorities said a be-on-the-lookout alert was issued, and other officers quickly detained Gallo nearby.
Police said they also recovered a knife believed to be the weapon used in the attack.
They said a witness positively identified Gallo as the suspect.
Surveillance video obtained by MPD’s Real Time Crime Center captured the incident in full, according to authorities.
Police said Gallo was read his Miranda rights at 6:20 p.m. but refused to speak with investigators.
They said the victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. His age or current condition was not immediately released.
Jail records show Gallo was arrested Saturday and faces one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
As of Tuesday, he remains at TGK, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
Police have not released a motive for the stabbing at this time.
