OAKLAND PARK, Fla. — Broward County prosecutors declined to pursue charges against a man who was arrested in Oakland Park earlier this year.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 35-year-old Milton Jose Rodriguez after they said he was found inside the bedroom of a 16-year-old boy by the boy’s stepfather.
According to deputies, Rodriguez met the teen on an online dating app.
Deputies said Rodriguez told the stepfather that he met the victim on Grinder and that his profile had stated he was 19 years old, not 16.
Ultimately, prosecutors filed “no information” regarding the case on June 3, indicating they would not be filing any criminal charges against Rodriguez.
A statement from Rodriguez’s attorney, Armand Murach, read in part:
“Mr. Rodriguez was never formally charged with a crime, and the case was declined for prosecution and dismissed in its entirety.”
A spokeswoman for the Broward County State Attorney’s Office confirmed in an email to Local 10 News that no charges were filed as the teen told detectives that he lied about his age online and confirmed that no sexual contact had occurred between him and Rodriguez.
“Investigators agreed that the teen could appear to be an adult,” the spokeswoman said.
