POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – New details have emerged about the driver seriously injured when a Brightline train slammed into his car last Tuesday in Pompano Beach, sending the vehicle flipping into a city building.

Video from the scene showed the car flipped upside down, its engine block and a tire violently detached by the impact. The debris struck the city commission building, shattering a window.
The crash happened around 3:50 p.m. near the intersection of West Atlantic Boulevard and North Dixie Highway.
According to authorities, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded quickly after the collision was reported.
The driver, 81-year-old Julio — a resident of Chile — was transported to Broward Health North with serious injuries.
Broward Health officials confirmed he was discharged Monday and is now recovering.
Despite the terrifying crash, they said Julio said he’s grateful to be alive and considers his survival nothing short of a miracle.
He credits the swift response from Pompano Beach paramedics and the medical staff at Broward Health North for saving his life.
Hospital staff said Julio now faces weeks of physical therapy as part of his recovery. No other injuries were reported in the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
