Man stabbed by wife’s relative in Homestead over alcohol money, police say

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Homestead police arrested a 23-year-old man on an attempted murder charge after they said he stabbed his relative’s husband on Tuesday.

Authorities said Jose Mauricio Solorzano Chavez committed the crime after the victim asked him for change after an alcohol purchase.

Police said the stabbing happened just before 4:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Southwest Sixth Avenue.

According to an arrest report, the victim told police that he gave Solorzano Chavez, a relative of his wife, $50 to purchase alcohol.

When he asked Solorzano Chavez for the change back, he refused to give the victim any money, police said. Authorities said the victim confronted Solorzano Chavez, who took out a pocket knife, placed it on his neck, said “I’m going to kill you,” and stabbed him.

A witness driving by saw the victim “holding his neck because he was gushing out blood” and after first responders arrived, medics airlifted the victim to Jackson South Medical Center.

A Homestead police K-9 officer located Solorzano Chavez a few blocks away with “blood on his left Croc and sock,” the report states.

According to the report, Solorzano Chavez told police that “the victim pushed him first and he defended himself” and made an alleged confession.

Solorzano Chavez was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bond listed as “to be set” as of Wednesday.

The Salvadoran national is also subject to an immigration hold, online records show.
