Stefan Andres Correa, 42, was arrested in April 2024 at Miami International Airport as he tried to board a flight to Bogota.
Homeland Security Investigations agents said during a search of multiple cellphones he had with him, they discovered photos and videos of Correa raping young girls and a conversation with a sex trafficker about his plans to victimize an 11-year-old.
Prosecutors allegedthat in a graphic series of text messages, Correa promised that both the trafficker and the girl would get $300,000 Colombian pesos — about $75 — and the girl would receive an iPhone if he could rape her in Medellín.
Investigators said he flew to Colombia dozens of times over a two-year span prior to his arrest.
“This prosecution and this sentence should serve as a warning to any predator who is trying to travel through our District to prey on children,” Hayden P. O’Byrne, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, said in a news release. “We will find you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law. A life sentence for this conduct is entirely appropriate. Predators such as Correa are a scourge upon humanity, and must be dealt with accordingly.”
Correa’s arrest was part of a crackdown on child sex tourism in the South American country.
