According to records from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), inspectors were at the restaurant on June 30, to follow up on a previous closure triggered by a Local 10 Dirty Dining investigation.

The restaurant, located at 15030 NW Seventh Avenue, was first shut down in mid-June for a rodent infestation.

Since then, there have been three separate inspections, all stemming from what our Dirty Dining cameras caught on video:

An employee removing multiple dead rats from the kitchen area using kitchen tongs, just minutes after opening for business.

Following Local 10’s reporting and submission of footage to DBPR, the state ordered May Fu shut down again. In two follow-up inspections since, the agency has documented an ongoing rodent issue.

Latest Inspection Findings on June 30

According to the most recent report, no rodent droppings were observed. However, inspectors found significant live and dead roach activity, including:

• One live roach crawling inside a sugar container near the walk-in cooler

• One live roach crawling on a wall near the kitchen’s back handwashing sink

• Over 10 live roaches inside the gaskets of the reach-in cooler along the cook line

• Four live roaches on a shelf of a prep table next to that cooler

• One live roach on the floor near the front counter cashier area

• One dead roach under the cutting board of a reach-in cooler

June 28 follow-up inspection

• Approximately 15 rodent droppings in the dining room area under tables stored against the wall.

Despite multiple cleanup efforts, the presence of live insects in and around food storage and prep areas continues to keep the restaurant shuttered.

“This is the third time the state has come back to check this place since our story aired,” said Local 10 Investigator Jeff Weinsier. “And they’re still finding live roaches inside containers used for food.”

May Fu was originally ordered shut on June 19, after inspectors found more than 70 rodent droppings throughout the restaurant.

The business briefly reopened following a re-inspection until Local 10’s footage prompted another DBPR visit, which again resulted in a closure.

As of Tuesday, the restaurant remains closed to the public, pending another follow-up inspection and full clearance from the state.
