MIRAMAR, Fla. – Police officers found a 2-year-old girl’s body in a lake early Wednesday morning in the Riviera Isles community in Miramar, police said.
According to the Miramar Police Department, the search started after the girl vanished from her home on Tuesday near Southwest 53 Street and 156 Avenue.
“Residents mobilized quickly using flashlights, walking the community, and providing home surveillance footage,” Janice McIntosh, a spokeswoman for the police department, wrote.
Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Pembroke Pines police officers also joined the search, which involved police dogs and aerial support.
“My husband was with the lantern looking all over; he even went into the water,” Elly Perez, a neighbor, said.
McIntosh said there was an ongoing investigation.
