MIRAMAR, Fla. – Police officers found a 2-year-old child’s body in a lake early Wednesday morning in the Riviera Isles community in Miramar, police said.

According to the Miramar Police Department, the search started after the child vanished on Tuesday near Southwest 53 Street and 156 Avenue.
“Residents mobilized quickly using flashlights, walking the community, and providing home surveillance footage,” Janice McIntosh, a spokeswoman for the police department, wrote.
Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Pembroke Pines police officers also joined the search, which involved police dogs and aerial support.
McIntosh said there was an ongoing investigation.
