AVENTURA, Fla. – Prosecutors have dropped the felony charge against a Hallandale Beach woman who was accused of attacking her 81-year-old mother inside a hospital room at HCA Florida Aventura Hospital earlier this year, according to court records obtained by Local 10 News on Thursday.
Authorities said Rosemary Espinosa, 56, was arrested on April 10 in connection with the alleged February 12 incident, which police initially investigated as felony battery on a person 65 or older.

According to Aventura police, officers responded to the hospital after the senior — who had been admitted for medical treatment — reported that her daughter became angry during a discussion about finances.
The mother told officers that Espinosa had asked for her checkbook and direct deposit information and punched her in the chest when she refused to comply, according to police.
In a police interview days later, authorities said Espinosa waived her Miranda rights and admitted she was upset over a bank account issue but denied hitting her mother. She told officers that she hid in the bathroom to avoid being blamed.
Court records show Espinosa was initially charged with one felony count of battery on a person 65 or older, but the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office opted not to pursue prosecution.
The case was formally closed on May 20 with a “no action” disposition.
