PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A South Florida nurse has been cleared of criminal and administrative charges after previously being accused of abusing a patient.

Shedsie Exceus, then 36, was arrested in 2023 after being accused of slapping and mistreating an autistic patient while employed at Memorial Hospital Pembroke.

But Broward prosecutors later dropped the charges and Exceus was cleared in a Florida Department of Administration case.

According to an order provided to Local 10 News, an administrative law judge noted a “lack of corroborating evidence” and noted that her “denial of the allegations was not only consistent and credible” but was also “uncontradicted by any direct witness beyond” a patient care assistant.

“Mrs. Exceus considers nursing to be a ‘calling from God’ and has maintained her faith that she would be able to return to her nursing career,” a representative for Exceus said.
