MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities continued to ask for the public’s help Friday in identifying the driver in a hit-and-run crash who they say killed a 67-year-old bicyclist in northwest Miami-Dade earlier this week.
Samuel Singletary, a father and grandfather, was struck just after 9:15 p.m. Tuesday while riding in the northbound inner lane near Northwest Seventh Avenue, according to investigators.
Detectives say the driver was speeding and fled the scene without stopping to help.
They say Singletary was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he later died.
Singletary’s sister, Dorothy Singletary Isler, described him as a kind and loving person.
“I was so hurt and shocked — that’s my brother next to me,” she said. “That’s my only brother, the oldest brother, so I was devastated.”
At the crash site, a mangled bicycle remained in the median.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office detectives, joined by Singletary’s sisters, distributed flyers of the victim on Friday morning in hopes of generating leads.
Centry Corker, who lives in the area, said he recognized Singletary as soon as he saw the flyer.
“I know this man — I’ve been feeding this man for 7–8 years myself,” he said. “Y’all gonna catch him. I’ll make sure. I’m not hiding my face. I’m gonna call 911 — I don’t care who it is.”
Authorities say the vehicle involved is believed to be a gray, silver, or darker-colored sedan with its windows down at the time of the crash.
“This is not roadkill. This was a human being just like you,” Singletary Isler said. “He would smile and have that weird laugh. I think he was my mother’s favorite.”
