Video taken by Miami Fire Rescue shows the home, located at 1557 NW 67th St., fully engulfed in flames.

According to MFR Lt. Pete Sanchez, the fire was reported at about 6:35 a.m.

“So this morning, there was like a boom. I thought like a firecracker or something, and then I look on the Ring camera. There was fire everywhere, so I called 911,” neighbor Cristal DeLeon said.

Sanchez said firefighters arrived at the scene to find the home fully engulfed in flames.

“The fire was brought under control within twenty minutes, with no damage to surrounding structures,” Sanchez said in an email to Local 10 News. “The home was confirmed to be abandoned and is believed to have been unoccupied at the time of the incident.”

No injuries have been reported, but neighbors told Local 10 News that squatters had been inside and the electricity was even on, prompting Florida Power & Light to come out to turn it off to avoid any further fire risk.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Miami Fire Investigation Unit, but neighbor Mac McCoy told Local 10 News that he believes the person who was squatting inside the home set it on fire.

“There’s two other properties I guess he was squatting in and (he) did the same thing, so this has been an issue,” McCoy said. “I don’t know where he is now.”

Sanchez said the City of Miami Building Department’s Unsafe Structures Division was contacted to assess the structural integrity of the building.
