The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida announced the arrest of Deputy Carle Miranda Blum, 51, on Wednesday.

Blum is facing charges of receipt of visual depictions involving the sexual exploitation of minors and production of visual depictions involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

Authorities said she “received multiple videos and images of” the child and, in the spring, traveled to Atlanta, “where she recorded multiple videos of herself engaging in sex acts with the then-minor victim.”

Neighbors of the deputy told Local 10 News that authorities were at her home for hours prior to her arrest.

Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz released a statement following the announcement of the arrest, which read:

“I am very disturbed by the arrest of one of our deputies on charges related to receipt and production of visual depictions involving the sexual exploitation of minors. These allegations are not only criminal, they are a betrayal of the badge, the public trust, and the oath we swear to uphold. The actions alleged stand in direct opposition to everything we represent as law enforcement officers and as human beings. We have assisted our federal partners throughout the investigation, and I remain committed to full transparency and accountability, no matter who is involved.”

Federal court documents that could provide additional details about the case weren’t immediately available.

Blum could spend decades in prison if convicted.
