MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 59-year-old man from southwest Miami-Dade was arrested after allegedly strangling and slashing a woman after she denied him sex, according to an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News on Wednesday.

Authorities say Eddie Lee Jones was arrested Tuesday evening after an hours-long standoff with deputies and faces one count each of second-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and battery by strangulation.

The incident began around 1:25 a.m. Tuesday when Jones allegedly made unwanted sexual advances toward the victim at a home near Southwest 136th Terrace and Southwest 117th Avenue, according to the report.

When she resisted, deputies said Jones allegedly began battering her, leaving multiple bruises, and bit her right wrist and middle finger.

Jones then grabbed the victim by the neck and began strangling her, the report stated.

The victim told deputies that she was gasping for air when Jones said “I’m gonna kill you,” according to the report.

The victim then struck Jones while he continued to strangle her, then managed to escape and ran off as Jones chased after her, the report stated.

Deputies said Jones later caught up to the victim at an unknown residence and slashed the left side of her face with a box cutter.

They said the victim suffered a severe facial laceration extending from the edge of her mouth to the base of her ear and was transported to Jackson South Medical Center for treatment.

At around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies said they located Jones at a residence on Polk Street, where he barricaded himself inside.

MDSO’s Special Response Team said they eventually took him into custody just after 7:30 p.m.

After being read his Miranda rights, deputies said Jones denied involvement in the incident.

The nature of the relationship between Jones and the victim remains unclear at this time.

As of Wednesday, Jones was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
